In 2013, the quantity if foreigners’ visits reached 7.5 millions. Among those, 61.3% came on the purpose of tourism. In the first 5 months of 2014, the visit number was over 3.7 millions, increasing by 26.1% in comparision with the same period last year. In terms of origin, three countries paid the most number of visits in Vietnam were from Asia. China ranked first with 25% visits in 2013. Moreover, the number of visits from China in the first 5 months of 2014 is nearly 1 million (grows by 43.4% in comparison with the same period last year). In general, the numbers of visits from most countries increase from 4/2014 to 5/2014. This is a good sign for hospitality and tourism industry.

In May 2014, Ho Chi Minh City exported a value of USD 1,835.5 million, divided equally into foreign investment sector and domestic sector. In the latter sector, non-state business exported USD 746.7 million, accounting for 41% of the city’s export value. Despite the limited share of only 10%, state sector’s export value grew by 70% in one month.
Although there was a little decrease in export value in comparison with April, in the first 5 months of 2014, the export value showed a slight increase when comparing with the same period last year (by 5.7%). Specially, again, state sector’ export showed the surge in value, by 60%.

In 2013, the import value of Vietnam reached 131,312 million USD, increasing by 15% in comparision with 2012. Machinery tools and spare parts and Electronics, computers and accessories were imported most in 2013 with 14% and 13%, respectively, of total value. Besides, Telephones of all kinds and accessories showed the fastest growth in value at about 60% year on year. By contrast, there was an drop in the value of imported motorbike and Means of transport and spare parts (by about 30%). In the first 5 months of 2014, Vietnam imported the amount of 56,859 milion USD, increasing by about 10% in comparision with the same period last year. The biggest amount was still spent for Machinery tools and spare parts and Electronics, computers and accessories. However, seafood and wood and materials imported value rose at a highest rate (about 90%).

In 5/2014, Vietnam retail sales of goods and services reached 240,272.6 billion VND (about 11.3 million USD), increasing by 0.6% in comparison with last month. By calculating with that number, in the first 5 months of 2014, total of retail sales and services was 1,178,981.9 billion VND (over 55 million USD). To compare with the same period in 2013, the figure shows a light increase of 11%. About types of ownership, the largest contribution was from Non-state businesses with 86.5% value in 5 months. Regarding the kinds of economic activity, 75.2% value came from retail sales. Tourism and services accounted only 1% in first 5 months.

Total exports value of all of the enterprises in June 2014 was estimated to be USD 2,646.4 billion, decreased 1.2% compared to last month, but increased 13.9% compared to the same period last year. In the first 6 months of 2014, exports value reached USD 14,182 billion, rised by 5.7% compared to the same period last year. In there, state economy accounted 33.1%, went up 8.5%; non-state economy occupied 30.5%, declined by 0.4%; and FDI economy accounted 36.5%, increased 8.8%.
Excluding crude oil, HCMC exports value in the first 6 months of 2014 was USD 10,314.2 billion, increased by 5.7%. Agricultural products accounted for 20.4%, increased by 16.2%; aquatic products occupied 3.5%, went up by 21.5%; forestry products accounted for 2.5%, rised by 29.8%; industrial products had 65.8%, increased by 0.3%; and other products accounted for 7.8%, went up by 17.2%.
In addition, the American market occupied 17.1% in the total exports value including crude oil, increased by 8% compared to the same period last year; and Japan accounted for 17.1%, went up by 20%, etc.

GDP of Ho Chi Minh city in the first 6 months this year is estimated at about 378.915 billion VND ( at current price), it has risen 8.2% compared with the same period in 2013 which was 7.9% and 8.1% in 2013 and 1012 respectively.
In aforementioned 8.2%, commerce & service accounted for 5.54% and those of industry & construction and agriculture, forestry & fisheries were 2.64% and 0.05% respectively.
– GDP at current price of agriculture, forestry & fisheries was 3.250 billion VND, taking up 0.9% of GDP and has gained 6% increase. Meanwhile, agricultural production value reached 4106.8 billion VND (at current price), which made it rise 4.1% compared with the same period last year; planting took up 34.2%, 4% increase; cattle breeding accounted for 56.3%, 4 increase. Production value of forestry was estimated to be 96.6 billion VND (at current price), increasing 54.6% compared with the same period last year, in which mining activities increased 68.9%. Fisheries’ value reached 2116.3 billion VND (at current price), rising 9.1 compared with same period last year. In fisheries, aquaculture value was 1563.3 billion VND , 14.9% increase; fisheries exploitation was 534.5 billion VND, 6.4% fall.
-At current price, GDP of industry & construction reached 150,652 billion VND, accounting for 39.8% of GDP, 6.4 increase. Specifically, industry took up 35.3%, increasing 6.6%; construction ‘s proportion was 4.4%, increasing 5.1%. Generally speaking, industrial production indicator rose 5.6% compared to the same period last year. Further specifically, there was a slight change in mining industry (0.4%); processing industry increased 5.6%; electricity production & distribution rose 5.7%; water supply and garbage processing increased 7.2%.
-In commerce & service, GDP at current price reach 225,013 billion VND, accounting for 59.4% of total GDP, increasing 9.6%. Specifically, increase rates of business, hotel & restaurants and logistic & storage were 11.1%, 10.8% and 12.6% respectively.

Import value of HCMC enterprises in June’14 was estimated to reach USD 2,302 million, deceased by 4.2% compared to the last month and 14.4% compared to the same period of 2013.
In the first half of the year, total import value was USD 2,446.3 million, declined 2.2% compared to the same period of last year.
State economy accounted 8.5%, went down by 1.2%. Non-state economy occupied 55.9%, decreased 7.7%. FDI economy accounted for 35.6%, rised by 7.4%.
In addtition, the Chinese market had 24.4% in total import value, increased by 16.1% compared to the same period last year; the American market was 6.5%, increased 41.1%; and the Japanese market accounted for 6.5%, increased 4.2%.

HCMC’s Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery production value in the first 6 months of 2014 was VND 6,319.7 billion (actual price), increased by 6% compared with the same period of 2013; in there, agriculture raised by 4.1%, forestry went up by and 54.6%, and fishery increased by 9.1%
Agriculture production value reached VND 4,106.8 billion (actual price), in which Planting accounted 34.2% (4% increase); breeding occupied 56.3% (4% increase). Forestry production value was VND 96.6 billion (actual price), in there, Exploitation activities raised 68.9%. Fishery production value attained VND 2,116.3 billion (actual price), in which Aquaculture was VND 1,563.3 billion, went up by 14.9%; and Fishing was VND 534.5 billion, decreased by 6.4%.

According to VECITA survey, 702 out of 781 Internet users (92%) go online daily.
Laptop and mobile phone continued to be the most popular devices to access Internet in big cities (60% and 50% respectively).
According to the survey, 87% go online to update information, 73% use social network or forums, 71% access e-mail, and 20% shop online.

Generally, in 164 e-commerce service websites participating in the survey, the main model was primarily online store (60%). The following were classified advertisement (45%), buying in group (19%) and forum (18%).
78% of e-commerce service websites were established by their own budget, 14% by the state budget and 8% of them received from the foreign investment capital.
Clothing, footwear, cosmetics were the most commonly sold products on the e-commerce websites, accounted for 79% of surveyed sites. This proportion represented a correspondence between the supply and demand, of which 62% of people chose to purchase this kind ot product online.
The most popular type of advertisement which were chosen by enterprises including the social networks (87%), followed by search engines (84%). Especially, the number of enterprises advertising on television was only 13% due to its high price.
